Ultra Shape removes
stubborn pockets of fat. Other procedures that remove fat are liposuction
and mesotherapy.
Liposuction
Liposuction is a surgical procedure that removes fat from several
sites such as the abdomen, thighs, buttocks, and arms. It may be
done under a general anesthetic or by a tumescent method that uses
local anesthesia. The fat is suctioned out by a tube that is inserted
through an incision in the skin. It is not intended for weight loss,
but for body contouring. The amount of fat removed varies and the
more fat that is removed, the greater the risk of surgical complications.
If too much fat is removed, there is a chance of an uneven, lumpy
contour.
Recovery from liposuction takes between 2 to 14 days. Pain, which
may last for as long as 2 weeks is controlled by oral analgesics.
Bruising lasts a week or so and swelling subsides in 2 to 8 weeks.
Numbness may last for several weeks. Normal activity may be resumed
after several days or weeks, depending on the area where the fat
was removed. A compression garment is worn for several weeks. Noticeable
changes are seen within a few days once the swelling resolves, but
it takes up to 6 months to see the final result.
Potential complications from liposuction include infection, allergic
reaction, anesthesia toxicity, scars, contour irregularities, skin
necrosis, and puncture of an internal organ, possibly leading to
death.

Mesotherapy
Mesotherapy is a treatment to reduce fat. It involves multiple injections
of pharmaceutical and homeopathic medications, plant extracts, vitamins
and other ingredients into the subcutaneous fat under the skin.
It targets and destroys adipose cells.
There is controversy over mesotherapy since the mechanism of action
is uncertain. There is no established safety profile of the substances
injected and whether or not they actually work. The substances can
cause inflammation and swelling with intense burning.
Many studies have been done with UltraShape showing an excellent
safety profile. The mechanism of action is understood. Patients
are very comfortable during their treatments, and there is no associated
pain.
